ANA MADUREIRA – A RELVA e a SELVA

The grass is low, and soft, and fits the landscape with ease. The jungle is a knot, a liana, a mysterious wild sound, not a breeze. We are grass and we are jungle too.
To be the king of the grass, to go with the jungle’s class, laugh at the king, be true, say I know! yet have no clue, be what you choose to do, ready for what comes through. Be it grass or jungle too.

In this workshop, we look at theatre as a whole made up of several moments: improvisation games, which allow us to use spontaneity to create scenes; repetition, which better defines intentions and gestures; rhythm, musicality and body techniques that bring scenes back to life; the exploration of materials and the construction of scenic objects; the notion that there is always an audience, which helps us sharpen our gaze and critical capacity.

Ana Madureira is an actress, director, and illustrator, she creates and directs theatre productions for all stages and audiences, with a special focus on children and families. She writes scripts, stories, and songs and designs the visual and artistic world of her creations. She plays with the hidden meanings within the apparent two-dimensionality of words and things, crafting concise and intense performances that speak about life in its most disconcerting aspects, while also exploring the escape routes – humor, fantasy, and poetry – that illuminate it.
In collaboration with communities, she has developed projects that enhance the stories of each person and place, resulting in self-published works, installations, guided tours, and training workshops.
During the day she studied Law in Coimbra and at night she studied theatre at CITAC. She debuted as a professional actress with the company Circolando and continued her artistic practice at the Grotowski Institute, c.e.m – Centro em Movimento, Clown Laboratori Porto, Operação Nariz Vermelho, among others. Having failed to straighten the world through Law, she now tries her luck through Art.
