This October Encontros Gymnasium returns to Lagos – a biennial festival for young audiences that grows out from the mediation work we carry out every year within Gymnasium in several schools across the city.

This year’s edition moves through different venues, from Centro Cultural de Lagos to Espaço Jovem, the Municipal Library and the City Park (Anel Verde). Five days bring together dance, theatre and music performances for children and youths, as well as workshops, film screenings and talks, in a multidisciplinary programme for schools, but also for families and the wider community.

At its center is a selection of contemporary artistic proposals, distinct in their aesthetics and marked by a strong poetic and conceptual dimension, as well as by playfulness – each work creating a universe of its own and engaging with different sensibilities and age groups. Some of the projects are by artists who are already part of the Gymnasium journey, while others bring new worlds into this gathering.

As in the first edition, the Encontros come to a close with a special programme, open to everyone, with family workshops, a performance, a concert and a shared lunch.
