This workshop invites the children to dive into the universe of Portuguese folk art and puppet theatre – The D. Roberto Theatre.
During one week they will build their own D. Robertos – small glove puppets – and in doing so they will acquire the basic skills of handling and manipulation, using different techniques and creating their own characters, sets and stories.
João Costa has a degree in Design and a Masters in Visual Arts. His path has alternated between the training / teaching of visual arts and artistic production.
In 2006 he starts working with puppets through Toni Rumbau. Three years later he creates the puppet company Mãozorra Teatro de Marionetas, with the aim of preserving, creating and innovating puppets popular theater of in Portugal, namely the D. Roberto Theater.
He has participated in several festivals and national and international meetings, namely in Spain, Brazil, Romania and Mexico.
He is the director of the company Mãozorra since 2014 and the artistic director of the ESTAR Festival – Encontros de Teatro e Animações de Rua de Aljezur. He is also, since 2016, the director of the festival MÓ – Festival de Marionetas de Oeiras.
