Home Things by José Miguel Ribeiro, is a must-see in Portuguese children’s animation. Created in plasticine using stop-motion techniques, the series transforms everyday objects – scissors and needles, clothes and pegs, pencils and erasers – into characters and short stories, with extraordinary simplicity, charm and poetic delicacy, revealing a secret world hidden in the home things around us.
In this screening, we’re bringing back 13 episodes to introduce the series to more children and celebrate the singularity of one of the great names in Portuguese animation.

Founder of Praça Filmes, José Miguel Ribeiro (1966) is one of the inescapable figures of Portuguese animation film. Also an illustrator and a teacher, Ribeiro’s dedication to cinema is constant, having directed numerous films, including O Banquete da Rainha (1994), awarded at the Cinanima Festival, A Suspeita (1999), winner of the Cartoon d’Or, Passeio de Domingo (2009), or Estilhaços (2016), which received the Best Documentary Award at Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.
