MATILDE REAL – At the Skin of the Stone

Here we listen to the stones. We let them observe us. They have desires, gestures, and languages. As we wait for them to open themselves to our touch, we begin to create stories, songs, dances, and poems that will be inscribed in the heart of each one. And we listen to the stories they carry within, rising to the surface, between magic and science. Through the body, voice, words, and drawing, we find ways of relating to stones and, who knows, long-lasting friendships.

Matilde Real is a creator, dramaturg, and performer in works developed with diverse communities. She works with the spoken and written word, seeking the language of each place: mountains, prisons, cliffs, schools, forests.
She holds a Master’s degree in Applied Theatre from Goldsmiths, University of London.

Her most recent creations include A PASSAGEM (2025), with the participation of residents of Fundão; CHAUTARI (2025), with the participation of migrants in downtown Coimbra; and VAGA (2024), within the fishing community of Azenha do Mar.

She is currently working with transhumant shepherds. She does not separate a place from the people, animals, and stones that inhabit it.
